Customs Guard — Privacy Policy

What this app is

Customs Guard scans a merchant's product catalog and proposes an international 6-digit HS (Harmonized System) heading for each product, and flags Country of Origin gaps or inconsistencies. On the Pro plan it also tracks catalog exposure against de-minimis import thresholds in the US, EU and UK. It is advisory only — it never submits anything to a customs authority and never guarantees a proposed code is correct.

What data we access

With the merchant's permission the app reads product and inventory metadata only — title, description, tags, product type, vendor, variant price, and the existing HS code / Country of Origin on each variant's inventory item. We never access customer data, order data, or payment data of any kind.

What we store

We store the classification proposals and Country of Origin flags we generate for a shop, a snapshot of de-minimis exposure (Pro), a review-prompt counter, and the Shopify session record needed to keep the app installed. We do not store customer names, email addresses, shipping addresses, payment details, or any other customer personal data — there is none to store, since the app never reads it.

Data retention and deletion

When a merchant uninstalls the app we remove all of the shop's stored records. We also honour Shopify's mandatory data-request, customer redaction and shop redaction webhooks — the customer webhooks are no-op acknowledgments since we never store customer data.

Third parties

We do not sell, rent or share merchant data with third parties. Data is processed only to provide the app's functionality.

Not customs or legal advice

Proposed HS headings are the international 6-digit heading only, never the country-specific 8–10 digit tariff line, and de-minimis thresholds can change. Always confirm the final code and any duty calculation with a qualified customs broker before shipping.
